The announcement follows Oklou's stunning «Tiny Desk» performance, where Oklou played marimba and piano alongside an eight-person choir, as well as her cover story for Pitchfork, for which journalist Anna Gaca traveled to Pau, France to reflect on her breakthrough year and artistic development. Oklou was also recently featured on PinkPantheress's remix album «Fancy Some More?» on the track «Girl Like Me». Ranked among the best albums of the year by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Billboard, The FADER and Stereogum and awarded the French Le Prix Joséphine as Album of the Year, «choke enough» has solidified Oklou's status as a cult outsider pop star. Following the album's success, Oklou received high-profile support from Billie Eilish, who remarked: «Honestly, she's the first thing that's excited me in a long time», and from Ethel Cain, who added: «I'm obsessed with this album, it's like pop music made for insects», as well as from Rosalía and Lorde. Oklou, born Marylou Mayniel in rural western France, laid the musical foundation with classical piano and cello lessons before falling in love with electronic music production and performing her first shows in Paris. Her 2020 mixtape «Galore» marked a creative breakthrough by combining introspective songwriting with futuristic sound design.
