The program is complemented by Friedrich Cerha's "Bagatelles", honoring one of the key figures of the 20th century. The string trio is counted among the most demanding chamber music ensembles: Three voices, no doubling, complete transparency. It is precisely this requirement, however, that makes the constellation unique and creates an immediacy of sound that is rarely found in larger ensembles. The Mondrian Ensemble places four works side by side in this program, which impressively demonstrate how differently composers from all periods have responded to the concentrated power of this medium.
