The subsequent film discussion with producer Ruth Waldburger looks back at the 1990s, when she took her first steps as a producer in New York. Ruth Waldburger is the grande dame of Swiss producers. Her career took off in the 1990s in New York. At that time she was working with Robert Frank on the film «Candy Mountain» when Tom Dicillo sent her the screenplay for JOHNNY SUEDE and she recognized its potential. For lead actor Brad Pitt, who was at the beginning of his career, the role meant his breakthrough. The Director's Cut shown at Kino Xenix is more than a restoration: director Tom DiCillo has substantially reworked the film – with precise re-editing and a completely new musical composition, which he composed and performed himself. Inspired by guitar legend Link Wray, the new score gives the film a more coherent sound and gives Johnny Suede's world exactly the musical soul that DiCillo originally envisioned.
