His Requiem is originally in the unusual key of A major for church music of his time, due to a deeply tuned organ. The Zurich Singkreis has newly published the work and transposed it to B major for easier performance on wind instruments. For the premiere of this new score, the cornet-trombone ensemble "Les Cornets Noirs" was engaged. Monteverdi – Mourning for a singer The "Sestina" madrigals sing of the "tears of the lover at the grave of the beloved". They were likely composed after the death of the nineteen-year-old singer Caterina Martinelli, called "La Romanina", whom Monteverdi lost to smallpox just before the premiere of his opera "L'Arianna" – a role he had written especially for her. The five voices alternate between choral and solo passages, accompanied by violins, viols, cornets, and trombones. Additional works (instrumental): John Dowland (1563 - 1626) - Lachrimae amantis Joannes Baptista Dolar (c. 1620–1673) - Sonata à 13 Participants: Zurich Singkreis, Les Cornets Noirs (cornets and trombones) and Voces Suaves, one of the internationally most sought-after vocal ensembles for early music.
